2.2 PUMP REQUIREMENTS
A. Construction: Construction of
pumps shall conform to the following requirements:
1. All major pump parts shall be
made of cast iron conforming to ASTM A 48, Class 30 or better. The
casing assembly and drive connection shall permit the removal of the
rotating element without disconnecting the piping. Casing parts
shall have registered fit to maintain alignment. The nozzle flanges
shall be flat faced, with ANSI/ASME B16.1, Class 125 diameter and
drilling. Pipe-tapped openings shall be provided for draining,
priming, and venting the casing. Cast iron casings shall be provided
with plugged gauge cock connections on the suction and discharge
nozzles. The pump shall contain no points of critical clearance nor
require periodic adjustment or replacement to maintain reasonable
pumping efficiency. All waterway passageways shall be free from
hollows, pinholes, cracks, fins, and projections that might cause
cavitation.
2. Impeller: The impeller shall be
a one-piece casting. The impeller shall be completely machined
on all exterior surfaces, except when high chrome alloy
material is specified. The interior water passages shall have
uniform sections and smooth surfaces and shall be free from cracks
and porosity. The impeller shall be securely locked to the shaft so
that it will not be loosened by reverse rotation, but shall be
easily removable. The impeller shall be of the enclosed type,
statically and hydraulically balanced, and keyed to the pump shaft.
3. Bearings: Regreasable
lubricated ball bearing type. Bearings shall have an ABMA L10
Life Rating of 40,000 hours at specified operating conditions. The
pump shaft speed shall not exceed the limits specified by the
bearing manufacturer.
4. Shaft: Steel, AISI 1045.
5. Seal: Mechanical seal, single or
double, internally cooled.
6. Wear Ring: Bronze
(ASTM-B584-932).
7. Hardware: All exposed nuts,
bolts, and miscellaneous hardware shall be Type
316 stainless steel if available as a
manufacturer’s standard option. Otherwise manufacturer’s
standard shall be supplied.
8. Mounting Method: Support foot
casing supports.
9. Pump Connection: Flanged with
dimensions conforming to ANSI B16.1, Class
125.
B. Drive: Each pump shall be driven
by a TEFC motor through a flexible coupling. The motor shall be
suitable for use with a variable frequency drive and meet the
requirements of Section 16220, Electric Motors. The motor shall be
furnished by the pump manufacturer and be coordinated with the
requirements of the VFD, and pump, sized to be non over loading
during operation at any point on the pump curve. The flexible
coupling shall have a horsepower rating 1.25 times the motor
nameplate horsepower when the misalignment is within the
manufacturer's tolerance limit. Coupling design shall permit
removal of the pump rotating element without disconnecting the
piping, moving the drive unit, or axial movement of the coupling
halves on the shaft. When the pump is installed in a classified
area, it shall be approved and labeled for such area. Refer to the
Drawings for area classification information.
C. Control: The Instrumentation and
controls shall be provided as indicated on the P&IDs,
