Section 15120
PIPING SPECIALTIES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 THE REQUIREMENT
A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish and
install miscellaneous piping specialties, as shown and as specified
herein, complete and operable including accessories in accordance
with the requirements of the Contract Documents.
1.2 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED
ELSEWHERE
A. The requirements of the following
sections and divisions apply to the Work of this section. Other
sections and divisions of the Specifications, not referenced below,
shall also apply to the extent required for proper performance of
this Work.

1.3 REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS,
CODES, AND STANDARDS
A. All Work specified herein shall
conform to or exceed the applicable requirements of the referenced
portions of the following publications to the extent that the
provisions thereof are not in conflict with other provisions of these
Specifications.
B. Comply with the applicable
editions of the following codes, regulations and standards.
1. Standards:

American National Standards Institute
AWWA
American Water Works Association
C. Comply with the applicable
reference Specifications as directed in the General
Requirements and Additional General
Requirements.
1.4 CONTRACTOR SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals shall be made in
accordance with the General Requirements, Additional
General Requirements and as specified
herein.
B. Submittals shall be made in
accordance with Section 15000, Piping, General.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A.
General:
1. All piping specialties shall
be tested in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation and
applicable AWWA/ANSI specifications.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 AIR AND GAS TRAPS
A. Air and gas pipes shall be
installed with continuous slope towards the low points. Drip legs
shall be provided with shutoff valves, strainers, and traps. The
traps shall be piped to the nearest drain. Air and gas traps shall
be not less than 150-pound iron body float type with copper or
stainless steel float suitable for the service. Bracket, lever, and
pins shall be of stainless steel. Drain traps shall have threaded
connections.

2.2 STEAM TRAPS
A. Steam traps shall be installed in
all low points of steam piping, at minimum 300-foot intervals in
mains, at steam appliances, heat exchangers, heaters, and control
valves, and where shown. Steam traps shall be preceded by drip
legs, globe valves, and strainers, and shall be connected to the
condensate system. Steam traps shall be of the float and
thermostatic type, the bucket type, or the disc type, as best suited
for the service, with cast iron or steel body, stainless steel or
monel trim, and screwed connections, with minimum rating of 150
psig.

2.3 THERMOMETERS
A. Thermometers shall be 9-inch
nominal size with adjustable angle from temperature well.
Thermometers shall have Type 316 stainless steel separable sockets.
Separable sockets shall have extension necks on all insulated pipes
and where indicated on the Contract Documents. Thermometers shall
have range as indicated on the Contract Documents. The piping shall
be drilled and tapped for the thermometers as indicated generally on
the Contract Documents, but the thermometers shall be field located
for best readability. Location of thermometers shall be subject to
the ENGINEER’s acceptance.

2.4 STRAINERS
A. Strainers shall be of the
Y-pattern type with flush connections, have cast iron or bronze
bodies, Type 316 stainless steel screens with 1/32 inch perforation.
B. Strainers shall have screwed ends
for 3-inch and smaller sizes, and flanged ends for sizes greater than
3 inches.
C. Strainers shall be designed for not
less than 250 pounds per inch working pressure in
3-inch and smaller sizes, and 125
pounds per inch working pressure in sizes over 3 inches.
D. Manufacturers, Or Equal:

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Piping Specialties shall be
installed where indicated on the Contract Documents and as specified
herein.
B. Unless otherwise shown, strainers
shall be provided ahead of any control valves, regulators, steam and
condensate traps, and where shown. They shall be preceded by shutoff
valves.
C. Strainers shall have a blowoff
valve installed with piping to drain.
D. All field testing shall be
witnessed by the ENGINEER and be subject to ENGINEER’s acceptance.
3.2 IDENTIFICATION
A. Piping specialties shall be
designated with a mark number and indicated in the P&IDs and on
drawings.
