BLINDS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE
A. This section covers horizontal
and vertical window blinds. The blinds shall be furnished and
installed as specified herein and as indicated on the drawings.
1.2 GENERAL
A. The blinds shall be installed by
experienced workers in accordance with the best industry practices
and the recommendations of the manufacturer of the blinds.
B. All concrete, masonry, and gypsum
wallboard work shall be completed and dry. The inside temperature
shall be between 60 degrees F and 90 degrees F.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Complete specifications, data,
catalog cuts, and installation drawings shall be submitted in
accordance with the submittals section.
1.4 COLOR SELECTION
A. The full range of the
manufacturer's standard and custom colors shall be submitted in
accordance with the submittals section for color selection.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 HORIZONTAL BLINDS
A. Horizontal blinds shall be
provided for windows as scheduled on the Drawings.
B. Blinds shall be Levolor "Riviera"
or “Hunter-Douglas" 25 millimeter (one inch) blinds", Or
Equal. Hardware shall be enclosed in and secured to a metal head to
assure perfect alignment. Slats shall be tiltable to any horizontal
angle with a transparent wand, and shall be capable of being raised
or lowered to any height by means of a lift cord.
C. Blinds shall be free of burrs,
sharp edges, or other defects which could restrict operation, damage
parts, or cause injury to persons operating the blinds.
D. The tilter shall be fully enclosed
and capable of tilting the slats to any desired angle and holding
them at that angle against vibration or movement of ladders. The
wand that operates the tilter shall be of hexagonal or tubular
plastic, shall hang vertically by its own weight, shall be of
sufficient length for easy operation, and shall be detachable.
E. Slats shall be aluminum of the
alloy recommended by the manufacturer for maximum strength,
flexibility, and corrosion-resistance. Slats shall be 0.984 inch
wide x 0.010 inch thick and shall have a crown of proper contour
formed after painting.
F. The lift cord shall be braided of
a polyester fiber cord fabric, designed to produce a minimum breaking
strength of 175 pounds for the cord.
G. All metal components shall be
treated and undercoated for maximum corrosion protection. All
exposed metal components shall be painted with a plastic type finish
coating, applied under pressure and high temperature cured.
H. Windows with variable width slat
requirements shall have lift cords located to provide a minimum of
two per slat. Multiple blind sections for individual windows shall
be as indicated on the Drawings.
2.2 VERTICAL BLINDS
A. Vertical blinds shall be provided
for window openings as scheduled on the Drawings. B. Blinds shall
be Louver Drape "Zirlon Wheeled", Graber "G-71 Super
Vue", Or Equal.
Blinds shall be rotating and traversing
models, complete with all necessary hardware,
mounting brackets, fasteners, and
accessory items. Traversing arrangement shall be as indicated on the
Drawings.
C. Head track shall be extruded
aluminum, Alloy 6063, with baked enamel finish, and shall be
furnished with valance to match vanes.
D. Carrier trucks shall be fabricated
of Delrin 500 plastic with Delrin or Zirlon wheels. Traversing or
rotation shall be by means of a synchronized single wand one-touch
control mechanism, complete with pultruding end grip.
E. Louvers or vanes shall be solid
vinyl with fabric on one side facing into room and shall be 3-1/2
inches wide. Louvers shall be capable of rotating 360 degrees when
activated by the single wand mechanism. Louvers shall be free
hanging. Fabric inserts shall meet flame resistance requirements of
NFPA 701.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. The blinds shall be installed in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations
and as indicated on the Drawings.
3.2 CLEANING
A. After installation, the blinds
shall be cleaned and adjusted for smooth operation. Any blinds which
are damaged or which cannot be properly cleaned shall be removed and
replaced with clean, undamaged units at no additional cost to OCSD.
