SPECIAL TESTS AND INSPECTIONS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This section describes the requirements for providing special tests and inspections required by Laws and Regulations.

1.2 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE

A. The requirements of the following sections and divisions apply to the Work of this section. Other sections and divisions of the Specifications, not referenced below, shall also apply to the extent required for proper performance of this Work.

1. General Requirements:

a. Section entitled “Material Samples and Tests”. b. Section entitled “Equipment Testing”.
1.3 REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS, CODES, AND STANDARDS

A. All Work specified herein shall conform to or exceed the applicable requirements of the referenced portions of the following publications to the extent that the provisions thereof are not in conflict with other provisions of these Specifications.

B. Comply with the applicable editions of the following codes, regulations and standards.

1. California Building Code (CBC) 2010 Edition with references to ASCE 7 – 05, as indicated in the CBC.

1.4 DESCRIPTION

A. This section describes special tests and inspections of structural assemblies and components to be performed in compliance with California Building Code, Chapter 17 - Structural Tests and Special Inspections,.

B. These special tests and inspections are in addition to the requirements specified by the individual Sections in Division 2 through Division 17 of these Specifications.

C. OCSD will employ one or more inspectors who will provide special inspections during construction.

1.5 INSPECTION

A. Duties of Special Inspector:

1. General: Required duties of the Special Inspector are described in the CBC 2010
Edition, Chapter 17, Section 1704.
1.6 SPECIFIC TESTS AND INSPECTIONS

A. Required tests are presented in the Structural General Drawings and are described in
CBC Chapter 17, Sections 1704 through 1708.

B. For each Special Inspection or test, the Structural General Drawings identify whether
OCSD or the CONTRACTOR is responsible for performing the Work.

1.7 TESTS

A. Testing Laboratory

1. Tests performed by OCSD: Special tests will be performed by OCSD’s Testing
Laboratory.

2. Tests performed by CONTRACTOR: Special tests will be performed in a laboratory:

a. Licensed in the State of California for the specific tests to be conducted. b. Accepted by the ENGINEER.
B. Selection of the material required to be tested shall be by the ENGINEER and not the
CONTRACTOR.
