TRUCK SCALE

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

1.3 WARRANTY

A. The truck scale and all components specified in this Section shall be warranted by the manufacturer for a minimum three (3) year period after beneficial occupancy of the Work pursuant to “Use Prior to Final Completion” of the General Conditions, against defects in workmanship and materials.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Shop Drawings:

1. See requirements in Section 11005, Equipment: Basic Requirements.

2. Manufacturer's product data including catalogue cuts.

3. Equipment name, identification number and specification numbers.

4. Pit details, including embedded items, foundation units, anchor bolts, and bumper plates.

5. Shop drawings showing details, dimensions, anchorage details, and installation of equipment with all special fittings and appurtenances, including wiring diagrams.

6. Shipping weights.

7. Parts list with materials of construction.

8. List of at least 5 installations and telephone numbers, where substantially identical equipment has been used.

9. Certified capacity and accuracy.

10. Complete electrical/instrumentation wiring diagrams. B. Operation and Maintenance Manuals:

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

A. Subject to compliance with the Contract Documents, the following manufacturers are acceptable:

1. Cardinal Scale Manufacturing Co., Webb City, MO.

2. Fairbanks Weighing Division, St. Johnsbury, VT.

3. Mettler Toledo Inc., Columbus, OH.

4. Or Equal.
2.2 MATERIALS

A. Steel Plate: Steel, ASTM A36

B. Steel Shapes: Steel, ASTM A36

C. Structural Members: Steel, ASTM A36

D. Hardware: Stainless steel, ASTM A320, Type 316

2.3 EQUIPMENT A. General:
1. Furnish and install one low profile steel deck multi-platform scale system

2. Total Length: 70 feet

3. Three segments:

a. Steering Axle Segment: 10 feet

b. Drive Axle Segment: 20 feet

c. Rear Segment: 40 feet

4. Nominal W idth: 11 feet

2.4 COMPONENTS

A. General:

1. All components provided by scale manufacturer as an integrated system.

2. All components new and in current production.

3. Full Scale Capacity: 135 tons

4. Concentrated Load Capacity: 45 tons.

5. Full electronic design with internal self-checking weighbridges.

6. Plate: Diamond checkered steel.

7. Provide side rails (both sides).

8. Scale to be NTEP-certified. Submit copy of certification.

B. Each major component shall have identification tags with Manufacturer’s name, address, equipment serial number, type and model.

C. All indicators and system electronics to be furnished and used in a factory floor environment, and shall be housed in enclosures that provide protection against dust, humidity and water.
D. Load Cells and Junction Boxes:

1. Provide protection against wind blown dust, dirt and water.

2. Junction boxes shall have a NEMA 4 rating.

3. Analog load cells, minimum capacity 75,000 pounds.

4. Stainless steel with hermetic seals.

E. All components including weigh bridge, load cells, indicators, embedded foundation items shall be provided by the scale manufacturer.

F. Scale Foundation:

1. The scale manufacturer shall provide one set of reproducible structural drawings (image area of 21 inches x 34 inches) for the scale weigh bridge in sufficient detail for construction by the CONTRACTOR. The drawings and the Certificate of Design included at the end of this section shall be sealed and signed by an Engineer registered in the State of California

2. The design shall be reinforced concrete materials, as required in this section of the Specifications. Provisions for concrete weighbridge deck, approaches, drainage, scale anchorage and other related items shall be included

3. Design shall be in accordance with State of California regulations and requirements

G. Weighing Elements:

1. The weighing elements shall be electro-mechanical single load cell in design. All weight shall be transmitted by lever ratio reduction to a single load cell. Load cell(s) shall have multiple seals and steel sealing plate to guard against moisture, water, dust and dirt

2. Load cell signal shall be analog to the sectional controller. The signal shall be changed to digital by a converter in the sectional controller. A digital signal shall be sent from the sectional controller to the instrument

2.5 CONTROL SYSTEM

A. The truck scale control system shall include all equipment and other necessary appurtenances to provide correct total, tare, and net truck weighing for each of the three platforms. The controller shall provide 4-20 mA outputs to display weight of each platform and combined weight of the three platforms. In addition, the controller shall provide Truck on scale, Slow and Complete discrete outputs for remote monitoring. The Truck on scale output shall be provided to indicate when the truck is correctly positioned on the three platforms. The Slow output shall be provided to indicate when the truck load is nearing the desired load setpoint so that truck loading can be slowed down. The Complete output shall be provided to indicate that the truck loading operation is complete based on desired load reached.
B. Provide computer-based receipt printer, located in the truck bay for access by the truck driver. At a minimum include tare weight; total loaded weight; weight by axle; time stamp; and other data supplied from DCS. Two-color thermal type; 3” wide tickets. Star Micronics TSP700II Series Or Equal from Zebra Technologies. Mount in pole- or wall- mounted NEMA 4 enclosure with plexiglass door to protect printer from water.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3.2 MAINTENANCE OF INSTALLED EQUIPMENT, GATES AND VALVES

A. Maintain the operability and functionality of all installed equipment, gates and valves between the time of installation and the commissioning period. See Specification section
01660, Shipping, Storage and Handling Requirements, for requirements.

3.3 MANUFACTURER’S FIELD SERVICES

A. Furnish the services of authorized technical representatives of the Manufacturer to assist/inspect the installed equipment and to certify that the equipment has been properly installed and is ready to operate, train OCSD personnel, conduct pre-operational mechanical checkout of the equipment, place equipment into operation, optimize the performances of the equipment and perform the field performance testing.

B. At a minimum, conduct three separate site visits as follows:

1. Inspection of equipment installation (8 hours minimum)

2. Training of OCSD Personnel: See Specification section 01820, Training of
OCSD Personnel, for requirements.

3. Commissioning: See Specification section 01810, Commissioning, for requirements. Number of hours shall be as required to meet all testing and commissioning requirements, but shall not be less than 8 hours.

C. Service Engineer shall have a minimum of 3 years of experience on the type and size of equipment specified

D. Service Engineer shall supervise location of anchor bolts; setting, leveling, alignment, field erection, etc.; coordination of electrical, miscellaneous utility connections


E. The scale platforms and instrumentation shall be calibrated, tested and certified by appropriate institution of the State of California to perform all system functions described above and to satisfy all NBS H-44 handbook requirements. Acceptance will be based on successful compliance. The scale manufacturer shall supply the test truck(s) for all weight calibration/testing which shall include a minimum of twenty 1,000 pound certified weights
