Section 15107
DIAPHRAGM VALVES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 THE REQUIREMENT
A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish
and install diaphragm valves, complete and operable, as shown
and specified herein including appurtenances and accessories, in
accordance with the requirements of the Contract Documents.
1.2 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED
ELSEWHERE
A. The requirements of the following
sections and divisions apply to the Work of this section. Other
sections and divisions of the Specifications, not referenced below,
shall also apply to the extent required for proper performance of
this Work.

1.3 REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS,
CODES, AND STANDARDS
A. All Work specified herein shall
conform to or exceed the applicable requirements of the referenced
portions of the following publications to the extent that the
provisions thereof are not in conflict with other provisions of these
Specifications.
B. Comply with the applicable
editions of the following codes, regulations and standards.

Standard Specification for Rigid Poly(Vinyl Chloride) (PVC)

C. Comply with the applicable
reference Specifications as directed in the General
Requirements and Additional General
Requirements.
1.4 CONTRACTOR SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals shall be made in
accordance with the General Requirements, Additional
General Requirements and as specified
herein.
B. Submittals shall be made in
accordance with Section 15100, Valves, General.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A.
General:
1. All valves shall be tested in
accordance with manufacturer's recommendation and applicable AWWA
specifications.
2. Manufacturer with at least five
years of experience in the type of equipment or service being
provided.
1.6 WARRANTY
A. One year full product warranty by
product manufacturer shall be provided.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS A.
General:
1. All diaphragm valves shall be
of the weir type with flanged ends, unless otherwise shown,
suitable for throttling service and installation in any position.
All valves shall have bubble-tight shutoff.
2. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) valves
shall have a pressure rating of 150 pounds per inch at 73 degrees F
to 15 pounds per inch at 140 degrees F. The chlorinated polyvinyl
chloride (CPVC) valves shall have a pressure rating of 150 pounds per
inch at 73 degrees F to 40 pounds per inch at 210 degrees F.
3. Diaphragm valves for use with
polymers shall be the full port, open-throat type. The valve body
shall be 150-pound flanged end cast iron with a liner of
polypropylene or other suitable plastic. The plastic liner shall
have a minimum thickness of 3/16 inch. The diaphragm shall be
Hypalon.

4. Hayward Flow Control Systems.
2.2 CONSTRUCTION A. Body:
1. Unless otherwise shown, valve
bodies shall be of PVC or CPVC, conforming to ASTM D 1784, as best
suited for the individual service, with union ends or flanged ends
conforming to ASME B16.5, 150 pounds per inch. The valves shall
have flanged tops with position indicators.
2. Diaphragm valves on outlet and
drain nozzles of storage tanks shall have cast iron or ductile iron
bodies with plastic linings to best withstand the chemicals for which
they are used.
B. Diaphragm: The diaphragms of all
valves shall be of a chlorosulfonated polyethylene such as Hypalon,
Or Equal, except that the diaphragms for valves in chlorine solutions
and chlorine gas lines shall be Teflon.
C. Operator: Unless otherwise shown,
all valves shall be handwheel-operated. Handwheels shall be made of
suitable plastic material, or material with plastic coating. Where
pneumatic or electric operators are specified or shown, they shall be
furnished and assembled by the valve manufacturer, complete with
limit switches, positioners, and accessories as a functional unit,
unless otherwise shown.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Diaphragm valves shall be
installed in all chlorine solution and chemical feed lines, between
the appropriate storage tanks and points of application, and where
otherwise shown on the Drawings.
