PLUMBING SPECIALTIES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 THE REQUIREMENT
A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish and
install cast-iron floor drains, floor sinks, roof drains, cleanouts,
access covers and frames, hose bibbs, trap primers, shock absorbers,
hoses, nozzles, hose racks, and other plumbing specialties as
specified herein to produce, in combination with Work prescribed in
other sections of these Specifications, a complete and operable
plumbing system in accordance with the requirements of the Contract
Documents.
1.2 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED
ELSEWHERE
A. The requirements of the following
sections and divisions apply to the Work of this section. Other
sections and divisions of the Specifications, not referenced below,
shall also apply to the extent required for proper performance of
this Work.

1.3 REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS,
CODES, AND STANDARDS
A. All Work specified herein shall
conform to or exceed the applicable requirements of the referenced
portions of the following publications to the extent that the
provisions thereof are not in conflict with other provisions of these
Specifications.
B. Comply with the applicable
editions of the following codes, regulations and standards.

1.4 CONTRACTOR SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals shall be made in
accordance with General Requirements, Additional
General Requirements and as specified
herein.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 GENERAL
A. All plumbing piping, fixtures,
specialties, equipment, etc., shall be new, highest-grade products
manufactured for the intended usage. Materials, capacities,
features, finishes, and manufacturers shall be as specified herein
and shall be compatible with elements of the Work to which they
relate or connect.
B. Floor drains or floor sinks shall
be provided for all equipment drains. No equipment drains shall
discharge to floor slabs.
2.2 ROOF DRAINS
A. Roof drains (RD) and overflow
roof drains (ORD) shall have a coated cast-iron body, combined
flashing collar and gravel stop, coated cast-iron or bronze dome
strainer, under-deck clamp where required, and pipe of the size
indicated on the Contract Documents. A standpipe shall be provided
for overflow roof drains where indicated on the drawings.

2.3 DOWNSPOUT NOZZLES
A. Downspout nozzles (DSN) shall be
cast brass or bronze, and shall be provided with a threaded inlet
and a mounting flange. The mounting flange shall be provided with
drilled fastening lugs. Downspout nozzles shall be Smith "",
Josam, or Wade.

2.4 FLOOR DRAINS IN TILED FLOORS
A. Floor Drains: Floor drains (FD)
in the shower rooms, and in all other finished or tiled floors,
shall be furnished with a 5-inch nickel-bronze strainer and cast
iron body in the sizes shown and shall be made watertight.
Universal floor drains shall have adjustable strainerless clamping
collar and shall have inside caulking outlet and nickel bronze Type
A strainer. Sizes of the floor drains shall be as indicated on the
Drawings.
B. Funnel Receptors: Funnel
Receptors (FR) shall be combination drip drain, less clamping
collar, with dome bottom strainer, and shall have inside caulking
outlet.

2.5 FLOOR DRAINS IN CONCRETE
FLOORS
A. Floor Drains: Floor drains (FD)
in concrete floors shall be of cast iron, in the sizes shown on
the Drawings, with sediment buckets. Universal floor drains
shall have adjustable strainerless clamping collar and shall have
inside caulking outlet and nickel bronze Type A strainer.
B. Funnel Receptors (FR): Funnel
Receptors (FR) shall be combination drip drain, less clamping
collar, with dome bottomstrainer and shall have inside caulking
outlet.

2.6 FLOOR DRAINS IN CHEMICAL
AREAS
A. General: Floor drains (FD) in
chemical handling areas subject to corrosive liquids, shall be made
of CPVC, as scheduled on the Drawings.
2.7 MODULAR TRENCH DRAINS
A. Modular trench drain systems
shall be of the types specified herein and indicated on the
Drawings. The modular trench drain system shall include pre-sloped
channel drain sections, end caps, outlet connections, grating,
and all other components and accessories required for a complete
installation. Drainage channels and related components shall be
constructed of corrosion resistant polymer concrete. The grating
shall be suitable for medium duty traffic.

2.8 CLEANOUTS
A. All cleanouts shall be as
scheduled on the drawings. Where underground or concealed,
cleanouts shall be brought to floor level and to accessible
locations with access covers and frames.
B. Cleanouts shall be cast in
concrete above blind tees in buildings where shown on the
Drawings and shall have a pipe size of
6 inches for rodding through the pipe below.
C. Manufacturers: Cleanouts shall be
furnished by the manufacturers in the schedule on the drawings.
2.9 ACCESS COVERS AND FRAMES
A. All inaccessible valves,
controls, trap primers, cleanouts, etc., shall be made
accessible by means of access doors in ceilings, walls, or floors.
B. Access covers and frames for
valves, cleanouts, etc., in finished floors or walls shall have a
clear opening of not less than 8 inches x 8 inches. Said covers and
frames shall be of nickel-bronze, with hinged cover and shall be as
manufactured by Zurn, Josam, WADE, J.R. Smith, Or Equal.
C. The floor access covers in
unfinished concrete floors, not exposed to chemicals, may be of
galvanized cast iron, with a clear opening of not less than 8 inches
x 8 inches, and shall be as manufactured by Alhambra Foundry Company
Model A-2015, Neenah Foundry Co. No. R-6687, Or Equal. In traffic
or chemical areas, they shall be as manufactured by Alhambra Foundry
Company, Model A-1240, Neenah Foundry Co., Model R-1977, Or Equal,
with a clear opening not less than 10 inches in diameter.
2.10 TRAP PRIMERS
A. All drain traps connected to the
drain system shall be protected by trap primers, inserted in the
water supply to the nearest plumbing fixture. One-half inch copper
tubes shall be run from the primers to the traps of the floor drains
or floor sinks. The trap primers shall be mounted in accessible
locations.

2.11 SHOCK ABSORBERS
A. All cold- and hot-water piping in
buildings connecting to self-closing faucets, quick- action valves,
etc., shall be protected by shock absorbers, located at each
fixture, or battery of fixtures. Such shock absorbers shall be of
corrosion-resistant construction, permanently sealed, and shall
be sized and installed to the manufacturer's printed
recommendations.

2.12 WALL-MOUNTED HOSE RACKS
A. The CONTRACTOR shall install
wall-mounted hose racks at locations shown on the Drawings. Racks
shall be of all welded steel construction, of minimum 8-gauge sheet
steel, hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, and shall have a
capacity to hold 100 feet of
3/4 inch or 1-1/2-inch hose.
Where racks are located in the open, they shall be
supported from two 2-inch x 2-inch x 1/4 inch galvanized steel angle
posts, set in a concrete base, or as shown.
2.13 HOSES AND NOZZLES
A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish the
following lengths of hose for each hose rack and hose reel shown on
the Drawings:
1. 50-foot lengths of 1 inch hose
B. Each length of hose shall be
provided with male and female connectors and nozzle. The hoses shall
be seamless, extruded rubber with Dacron cotton exterior, and they
shall be designed for a working pressure of at least 200 pounds per
inch.
C. Nozzles shall be capable of
complete shut-off and shall produce a solid straight stream and up
to a 90-degree conical fog. Nozzle material shall be brass with
polished finish, and nozzle shall have a rubber bumper.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. The CONTRACTOR shall coordinate
the work of roughing-in, wall and floor sleeves, pipe inserts,
cutting of roof and floor construction to receive drains to required
invert elevations. Pipes below ceilings shall be held as high as
possible, without interfering with other trades.
3.2 INSTALLATION AND APPLICATION
A. The CONTRACTOR shall install all
plumbing specialties in accordance with manufacturer's printed
instructions to permit intended performance.
B. Cleanouts shall be extended to
finished floor or wall surface. Threaded cleanout plugs shall be
lubricated with mixture of graphite and linseed oil. The CONTRACTOR
shall ensure sufficient clearance at cleanouts for rodding of
drainage system.
C. Exterior cleanouts shall be
encased in concrete and flush with pavement, or they shall be
extended to above finished grade in unpaved locations.
D. The CONTRACTOR shall install water
shock absorbers, complete, with isolation valves in accessible
locations, or in access boxes as specified herein.
