PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 ECCENTRIC PLUG VALVES A.
Equipment Requirements:
1. Eccentric plug valves shall be of
the non lubricated eccentric type with cast iron bodies. The
plug face shall be isobuten-isoprene, capable of withstanding
250 degrees F.
2. The valve body shall be ASTM A
126, Class B cast iron, with flanged ends. The body seats in valves
4 inches and larger shall be have an overlay of not less than 90
percent nickel on surfaces contacting the plug face. The plug shall
be ductile iron.
3. Unless otherwise shown or
specified, all valves for sizes 4 inches and larger shall have worm
gear operators with all gearing enclosed and seals on all shafts to
prevent entry of dirt and water, and ANSI 125 pounds per inch
flanged or grooved ends. The operator shall clearly indicate valve
position.
4. All Internal parts, except the
body and plug, shall be Type 316 stainless steel, Monel, or nickel.
The stem-bearing and bottom-bearing shall be made of stainless
steel. Exposed nuts, bolts, and washers shall be Type 316 stainless
steel.
5. Valves 4 inches and smaller shall
have operating levers, and flanged ends. The body seats in valves 4
inches and smaller shall be have an overlay of not less than
90 percent nickel on surfaces
contacting the plug face.
6. All submerged and buried valves
shall be equipped with worm-gear operators, lubricated and sealed to
prevent entry of dirt and water into the operator.
7. All shaft bearings shall be
of stainless steel, furnished with permanently lubricated
bearing surfaces.
8. All valves shall have an
unobstructed port area of not less than 80 percent of full pipe
area.
9. All eccentric plug valves shall
have a pressure rating of not less than 150 pounds per inch WOG for
bubble-tight shutoff.
10. Surface Coating: Ferrous surfaces
of valves, 4 inches and larger, that will be in contact with process
fluid, shall be amine cured epoxy coated as specified for System No.
100, Section 09800, Protective Coating and in AWWA C550.
11. A flat compression washer made of
Viton shall be provided on the valve stem between the plug and the
bonnet. This washer shall act as a seal to prevent matter from
entering the top bearing. The top and bottom trunnion bearings
shall include an O-ring silt seal of the same material as the
plug facing. Stem seals shall be serviceable without
unbolting the valve bonnet assembly.
12. Valves for natural gas service
shall be UL listed. B. Manufacturer, Or Equal:
1. DeZurik Corporation.
2. Milliken.
3. Val-Matic.
a) Victaulic. b) Keystone.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. All plug valves shall be
installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's
published recommendations and the applicable provisions of Section
15100, Valves, General.
B. Buried plug valves shall be
provided with valve boxes, operating nuts, and tee- wrench handles
and installed as specified in Section 15100, Valves, General, of
these Specifications.
C. Eccentric Plug Valves: Unless
otherwise directed, the following rules shall be observed for
the installation of eccentric plug valves on sewage, sludge, or
other liquid systems containing solids, silt, or fine sand:
1. The valves shall be positioned
with the stem in the horizontal direction.
2. Valves shall be installed so that
in the closed position the pressure in the pipeline shall apply a
seating head on the valves.
3. In horizontal pipelines, the plug
shall swing upwards when opening, to permit flushing out of solids.
4. The orientation of the valve shall
prevent the valve body from filling up with solids, when closed.
However, where the pressure differential through the valve exceeds 25
pounds per inch, the higher pressure for valves without worm gear,
electric, or air operators, shall be through the valve, to force the
plug against the seat.
5. Valves that may be closed for
extended periods (stand-by, bypass, or drain lines), and valves with
reversed flow (higher pressure on downstream side, forcing the plug
away from its seat), shall be equipped with worm gear operators for
all sizes
4 inches and larger.
6. For special applications, or when
in doubt, consult with the manufacturer prior to installation.
D. Field testing of valves shall
be performed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations
and per Section 15100, Valves, General, of these Specifications.
E. All field-testing shall be
witnessed by the ENGINEER and be subject to ENGINEER’s acceptance.
